MOUTHS is a newly formed quartet from Sheffield, UK that blends elements of post-metal and shoegaze with moments of blistering post-hardcore energy. 'A Lower Process' is the band’s debut EP. It consists of four songs and was recorded and mixed at Tye Die Studio in Sheffield and was mastered by Jack Shirley. The EP also features vocal performances by Jemma Freese, a Sheffield multi-instrumentalist who performs with UK indie stalwarts, Maximo Park.
This EP is Mouths first sign of life and is getting a 7inch vinyltreatment in a limited pressing.
Made up of members of Naisian, Dead Cosmonauts, I Set The Sea On Fire and more, MOUTHS draws on a range of influences to capture a personality that is distinctly theirs.
Together though, the effect is cohesive: an energetic and atmospheric sound that draws together sludgy yet melodic riffage alongside frenetic passages with the dense dreaminess inspired by the likes of Deftones and Slowdive. This can be found through the use of Adam Zejma and Meg Washington's dual harsh and clean vocal delivery, which juxtaposes the savage with the ethereal. A driving rhythm section, prone to the occasional blast-beat, ensures things aren’t stood still for too long.
Sick of the sterility of much modern heavy music, MOUTHS tracked the instrumentation on 'A Lower Process' live, without a click, to capture the frenetic energy at the core of each of the songs. The end result is a powerful and stirring experience that demands repeat listens.
